After graduating from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education, full-time teaching jobs were difficult to find. While working a few days a week as a substitute teacher, a background in science led to the decision to attend nursing school. Unwilling to give up a love for teaching, both careers were pursued simultaneously, working part-time as a teacher and full-time as a nurse for three years. To maintain teaching certification, a Master's degree in Counseling was completed, leading to a dream role as a public school counselor. A year later, a life-changing opportunity arrived. The Kellogg Foundation identified the founder's community as underserved and awarded a full scholarship to become a nurse midwife. After many hours of thought and prayer, the decision was made to accept the offer and begin midwifery school, leaving behind a beloved career in education to pursure a new path in women's healthcare.
