Our Story

Founded by two sister’s, one is an educator and the other a seasoned midwife and nurse practitioner, Never Trust a Penis was born out of years of witnessing the lives of women at all ages struggle with finding out that they have a sexually transmitted infection and/or human papilloma virus.

More than just a catchy name, this brand exists to educate, entertain, and empower individuals with the truth about how these infections and viruses can impact their long-term health and fertility. 

Through storytelling, humor, and a deep well of medical knowledge, we bridge the gap between clinical expertise and the human experience.  Whether it's busting myths, or providing insights into reproductive health, Never Trust a Penis is a bold voice on a topic that few often talk about honesty.

Our goal? To make people laugh and learn about potential health risks associated with unprotected sex.

Nurse Practitioner

After graduating from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education, full-time teaching jobs were difficult to find. Working as a substitute teacher just a few days a week prompted a search for alternative employment opportunities.

A background in science eventually led to nursing school, while a love for teaching remained. For three years, part-time teaching continued alongside full-time work as a nurse.

To maintain the teaching certification, a master's degree in counseling followed, eventually leading to a dream job working in public school as a guidance counselor.

A year later, a letter from the Kellogg Foundation arrived. The local community had been deemed underserved, and the foundation offered a full-ride scholarship to become a nurse midwife. After many hours of thought and prayer, the opportunity was accepted and midwifery school began, leaving behind a beloved career for the unknown.

A Master of Nursing Science from Case Western University followed, along with work as a certified nurse midwife.

After one year of working with high-risk obsterical patients, the need for additional education became clear. A post-master's program at Michigan State University provided the next step toward becoming a family nurse practitioner.

This created the perfect career, bringing together years of education and experience in teaching, counseling, nursing, midwifery, and family practice.

MORE THAN A PHRASE

Why the Name?

Thirty years ago, the work with colposcopic examinations began after training under a nationally recognized gynecologist. These examinations are used when a Pap smear is abnormal to determine the level of disease present on the cervix through one or more biopsies.

Over the years and hundreds of colposcopies later, one question continued to come up:

"How did I get this?"

The answer often led to conversations about sexual health, cervical disease, and the risk associated with developing cervical cancer. Those conversations would end with one memorable reminder:

"Never Trust a Penis"

Not in a man-hating way, but as an unforgettable reminder that understanding sexual health is one of the most important steps in preventing cervical disease and reduce the risk of cervical cancer.

The phrase became a way to help women better understand how cervical cancer develops, the role sexual health can play, and what they can do to protect their long-term health.
